Geography
China is a vast country. It is the world's fourth largest country and is home to approximately 1.25 billion people - nearly a quarter of the world's population. In the west of China there are the Himalayas, with some of the highest mountains in the world. In ancient China, the importance of the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers is hard to overstate. People mostly settled along these rivers, and different settlements were ruled by different emperors.

The magnificent Forbidden City is considered the symbol of imperial power of ancient China. Located in the very heart of Beijing. Built in Yongle Period, Ming Dynasty (1406 - 1420 AD), it covered an area of about 720,000 square meters. It therefore is the largest and well-preserved wooden building complex of the world.
grand canal
The Grand Canal is the longest man made water way. It is 1764 kilometres long and runs North to South. There 60 bridges throughout the entire canal. It is an important connector between the Yangtze River and the Yellow River Valley. It was constructed in the 5th and 4th century B.C. Three million people died building it because of hunger and hard labour while it was being built. In Ancient China during wartime they would intentionally break the canal to flood enemies. Grand Canal of China is a wonderful landmark.
